Wording impact seen in Chelsea away sanctions breaches
Special licence for Chelsea Football Club clearly states in its wording that no home Men Premier League fixtures sales to away supporters should take place for fixtures past the 10 March 2022 and as a result both Chelsea Football Club, Arsenal Football Club and to some extent the Premier League body are in breach of the sanctions regulation with respect to the Russian sanctions. Match tickets are the sole and unconditional property of the club, in this instance Chelsea Football Club. By selling the away match tickets to its fans Arsenal Football Club is in breach of the sanctions law and the licence and so is of course Chelsea Football Club. The financial transaction between Arsenal and Chelsea as well as the purchase by fans are both illegal
On 5 April 2022 I found out that Arsenal Football Club had organized the away match to Chelsea ticketing for the pending Barclays Premier League match. I then contacted the club telling them that it was illegal. They responded on 6 April 2022 in an email that they had authorisation from the Premier League. This authorisation is illegal. All the fans that purchased the tickets should be told that they committed a breach to sanctions but they should be refunded with immediate effect.
2,986 tickets priced at 27.65, being GBP 26 plus GBP 1.65 booking fee
Given my knowledge of wordings I know for a fact that there is a up to a triple sanctions breach. Until I see a wording to the contrary my suspicion is 100% correct.
OFSI declaration was made in a private individual capacity on the basis of public information. So far I only received an automatic email acknowledgement. Due to the lack of notification I had missed the away scheme priority booking dealine so the boycott due to the sanctions exposure was much easier for me. No sensitive information was given in my reporting and I am happy for anyone to know that I reported this incident. In normal circumstances a suspected sanctions breach is of an absolute confidentiality.
Football should not be above the law and the fans must be fighting back against illegal actions. Brexit was illegal and it was then enshrined into law. On this very sanctions subject I could not let that one slip off the wordings paradise.
